Around the Baltics: Riga - Nida - Vilnius - Sigulda - Tallinn - Riga


DAY 1: RIGA (arrival)

Arrival in Riga. Pick up of your car of choice at the airport of Riga. Drive to the hotel for a check – in.

DAY 2: RIGA – ETHNOGRAPHIC OPEN AIR MUSEUM  – RIGA (50 km)

The whole day to explore Riga, known as the „Metropolis of the Baltics“. About the third of population lives in the capital of Latvia, loved for its vivid lifestyle, friendly people, rich history and splendid architecture. While exploring the bustling old town, remarkable Art Nouveau district we recommend you to visit the Central Market to discover a piece of Riga’s daily life. In the afternoon satisfy your curiosity and visit the Ethnographic open air museum. The museum houses authentic homes, farmsteads, windmills, wooden churches and fishing villages, which represent different regions of Latvia through the last three centuries. Return to Riga

DAY 3: RIGA – KULDIGA – LIEPAJA – NIDA (350 km)

Driving towards Nida you may stop in Kuldiga, one of the oldest and most well preserved cities in Latvia. Don’t miss to visit  to the waterfall on the river Venta – the widest in Europe. Traveling along the Baltic coast we recommend you a short visit to Liepaja. Must see of the town is a Naval port, which occupies one third of Liepaja city. Continue towards Nida, quiet fisherman village, famous for its majestic sand dunes. Arrival and check – in.

DAY 4: NIDA

Breakfast at the hotel.

All day dedicated to explore the Curonian Spit, the curved sand dune peninsula that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. After you visited the house of famous German writer – Thomas Mann, the neo – gothic church, fisherman museum located in Nida, we recommend you a drive towards Juodkrante, to discover the impressive Hill Of Witches, with a hundred of fanciful and folksy wooden sculptures.

DAY 5: NIDA – KAUNAS – VILNIUS (360 km)

Heading east towards the Lithuanian capital you may stop in Kaunas, the second largest city and interim capital of the country. The city offers small, but cozy old town, a stroll through the longest pedestrian street of the region, called Freedom Avenue and the unique devils museum. Continue towards Vilnius. Arrival, check – in at the hotel.

DAY 6: VILNIUS – TRAKAI – VILNIUS (50 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.

A day to explore Vilnius, with its charming baroque style old town, numerous churches, hidden courtyards and spacious green parks. In the evening we recommend you a drive to Trakai (25 km), former capital of the Grand Duke of Lithuania, surrounded by three lakes, known as the biggest Karaite minority town. After you visit the famous, 15th century insular castle we recommend you to taste the exclusive Karaite dish „Kibinai“. Return to Vilnius.

DAY 7: VILNIUS – RUNDALE – SIGULDA (350 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.

Departure to Riga. After crossing the Latvian border be welcomed at Rundale palace, a baroque jewel designed by Italian architect F.B. Rastrelli, who is known for its world famous Hermitage palace in St. Petersburg. Continue towards Sigulda, where the beauty of nature become an integral part of the city. Arrival. Check – in at the hotel.

DAY 8: SIGULDA – GAUJA NATIONAL PARK – TARTU – TALLINN (370 km)

Before leaving Latvia pay a visit to Gauja’s National Park, the oldest National Park of Latvia, surrounded by hilly river banks and sandy caves. Straight after you cross the Estonian border turn towards Tartu, the center of southern Estonia. Tartu is the city of good thoughts and young people because of university and students. Discover the academic ambience with old University buildings and rich cultural life of concerts, theaters and exhibitions. Continues towards Tallinn. Arrival and check – in.

DAY 9: TALLINN

Breakfast at the hotel.

A day to explore Tallinn, a beautiful medieval, Nordic city, with a multitude of spires and magnificent orange colored rooftops. After visiting the upper and lower parts of the old town, do not miss relaxation at the seaside and visit to KUMU art museum, a new type of modern multifunctional art building.

DAY 10: TALLINN – PARNU – RIGA (310 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.

A costal road will lead you to Parnu - summer capital of Estonia. Walk along the sandy beach of Baltic coast, admire the architecture and driver further to Riga. Arrival, check – in at the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel. Free time. Drop of the car at the airport of Riga.
